Elaine Ezell and George Newhouse started out with cruets; collecting cruets, studying cruets, and finally writing three volumes of books on cruets. In 1996, they decided to open an antique mall and began with the same thoroughness. First they found an adequate space; an old Jamesway (a northern K-Mart type store.) With 58,000 square feet to play with, they proceeded to attract an incredible variety of very high quality dealers.
"We try to keep out reproductions and 'as is' things, so people can come here and see pretty things in pristine condition that can go right in their homes. Our furniture ranges from very early pieces, a lot of great Victorian things, and up through the well known

glass, vintage clothing, lots of Orioles stuff, trains, and examples in virtually every area of interest. We do props for major motion pictures all the time, and have been voted 'Best In Maryland' by customers who responded to a survey by Mid-Atlantic Antique Weekly."
For example, AAA Antiques has a special area for china with over 100,000 carefully displayed pieces of china to enchant customers and help them find missing pieces for their collections. China Lane has all discontinued lines and very old patterns, in whole sets and single pieces.
Four times a year, there is a sale when everything in the mall is discounted; the biggest sale of all is the day after Thanksgiving, when the mall is open 'till midnight! The mall is so big that people are encouraged to plan to spend the day, and Elaine and George want folks to enjoy themselves. "Two days after Hurricane Floyd went through, we still didn't have electricity, but we were open," Elaine says. "We gave everyone a flashlight and we had a lot of visitors go through that way. It was fun."
